Welcome to Option 10, the website which aims to provide a voice to those who are concerned that the Government's energy review should not lead to a return to dangerous nuclear power. We are desperately worried by the threat of Climate Change, yet recognise the need to ensure the security of the nation's energy supplies.
We are increasingly concerned that nuclear power will be targeted by terrorists and that it is dependent upon uranium. This is a finite resource whose waste problems have never been solved. Spending huge sums on new nuclear plants will divert the funds needed to develop safe, limitless, renewable technologies.
There is too much at stake to leave such decisions to our politicians. The public is increasingly coming to understand that we must reduce greenhouse gas emissions quickly if we are to avert climate catastrophe, and yet CO2 emissions are still rising rapidly within the UK. There is a feeling that the politicians are overly influenced by the short term needs of big business, so we call now for a national referendum on the future direction of energy policy.
We are calling for Option 10 - 10 steps to lead us away from climate changing oil, gas and coal, to energy security and a safe and responsible future.
If you too are concerned, please read our 10 policy steps and sign our online petition calling for Government to let the public decide on the most crucial decision of our time - how to secure the energy we need, safely, recognising that UK oil supplies are in rapid decline, with the supply of gas being threatened by political instability abroad.
We challenge Government to let the public decide - let the people have a referendum on Option 10.
Important!
Option 10 is a grassroots initiative. We don't have funds for wide publicity and don't yet have access to the mass media.
We need your help! We are delighted if you sign the petition and if that's your contribution, then thanks, that's great. However, if you think you might be able to do a bit more, then perhaps you could consider your email contacts: let them know about Option 10. And if you are really feeling generous with your time, we have provided a flyer for you to print off and deliver to houses near you. 10 sheets of A4 cut in half will be enough for 20 houses, will cost you about 50p in paper and printer ink and shouldn't take much more than 30 minutes of your time.
We also have some other resources to help you spread the word.
Thanks for your help,
The Option 10 team

Option 10 is an initiative of South East Essex Friends of the Earth.
