Dear Option 10 Supporter, You will no doubt be aware of yesterday's news indicating that scientists now recognise that 450ppm CO2 in the atmosphere is almost certainly a critical tipping point at which the "natural" runaway greenhouse effect will take over. Once that happens, there will be absolutely nothing we can do to avert catastrophe on a massive scale. The ice caps will melt, the tundra likewise, releasing huge quantites of methane into the atmosphere. Millions will die through land loss, agricultural failure and wars over diminishing resources. The scientific consensus is that we have about 20 years in which to stop climate change. That makes Government adoption of Option 10 (or something much more radical) an absolute imperative. We cannot afford to waste those years playing with more nuclear installations that rely on a resource just as finite as petroleum and in their own way just as dangerous as climate change. For that reason we are asking a big favour. Push your email contacts to the limit, eliciting every one of them to sign up and to persuade their contacts and so on. Also, we have made available some flyers (at http://www.option10.org.uk/resources/flyer.pdf) which you can print off and deliver to houses near you, drawing people's attention to Option 10. Please print off as many as you like on A4 paper (recycled of course!), cut them into two and push them through letter boxes. We reckon that if you print 10 sheets (enough for 20 houses) that should take you a total of 30 minutes of your time and cost you about 50p. Of course, if you want to deliver more than 20, we won't stop you! Also, about 1 in 4 people to have filled in the initial petition have not verified their signature and so are stuck in an electronic limbo. Please check for your Option 10 emails and click on the verification link. Option 10 is a grassroots initiative which has no funds for publicity and does not yet have access to the mass media. That is why we are asking you to help in this way. We want everyone in the UK to know about Option 10, and all those in agreement to sign the petition, before the end of the Government's energy review.
